KATHMANDU: Last Friday, after presenting his credentials to President Ram Chandra Paudel, Israeli Ambassador to Nepal, Shmulik Arié Bas, visited the BP Museum in Sundarijal on Monday.

Ambassador Bas made the visit to further strengthen the 64-year-old diplomatic ties between Israel and Nepal, as well as to pay tribute to former Prime Minister BP Koirala.

In a statement released today by the Israeli Embassy, Ambassador Bas highlighted the invaluable contribution of the late Prime Minister Koirala in establishing diplomatic relations between Israel and Nepal.

He reaffirmed his commitment to further enhancing the relationship between the two nations.

The museum’s Chair, Parshuram Pokhrel, welcomed the ambassador and informed him that the Sundarijal jail, where leader Koirala was imprisoned for nine years, has been developed into the museum.

Thanks to the visionary decisions of Israel’s then-Prime Minister David Ben-Gurion and leader Koirala, Nepal and Israel have collaborated through Israel’s international aid agency, MASHAV, in areas such as agriculture, education, and health.

Under the “Learn and Earn” program, Nepali students have been receiving practical agricultural training. Israel has also become a major destination for Nepali migrant workers.
