State govt committed to addressing conflict victims’ concerns: CM Acharya

LUMBINI: Chief Minister of Lumbini State, Chet Narayan Acharya, has said the government is committed to ensuring the rights of conflict survivors.

The government prioritizes the formulation of inclusive policies and legal frameworks to address the concerns of those affected by the conflict, thereby ensuring their access to justice, he reiterated.

In his address at a province-level inter-dialogue on the second National Action Plan related to the United Nations Security Council resolutions 1325 and 1820 on women, peace, and security, the Chief Minister spoke about the launch of a reparation plan aimed at addressing transitional justice needs. He also reminded the finalization of the Transitional Justice Bill a couple of months ago.

According to him, Lumbini Province suffered much in the conflict, incurring considerable loss to both the State and the rebel sides, particularly affecting women and girls.

The event was attended by State Minister for Internal Affairs and Law Adesh Agrawal, Vice Chair of the State Planning Commission Dr. Dilliraj Aryal, Lumbini State Police Chief DIG Kuber Kadayat, District Coordination Committee Chief Nityananda Sharma, and conflict survivors.

The National Action Plan aims to ensure meaningful participation of women in all state mechanisms, enhance their involvement in security, communication, industry, trade, and the private sector, effectively implement laws against violence and crime targeting women and girls, establish a robust transitional justice system, and provide livelihood support and empowerment programmes for the affected groups.

Additionally, it includes job creation initiatives and both short-term and long-term relief and reparation schemes for women and girls who have survived sexual violence during the conflict.
