KATHMANDU: After a brief respite from severe weather, cloud cover has resumed in the Koshi State, with the potential for rain beginning today.

According to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, the region is currently under a cloud blanket, and the effects will extend to Madhesh State, Bagmati, and Gandaki.

Meteorologist Pratibha Manandhar stated, “We expect clouds to linger, with light to moderate rainfall anticipated. Specifically, light to moderate rain will occur in Koshi State and spread to Madhesh, Bagmati, and Gandaki States, while the far-west, Karnali, and Lumbini regions are expected to receive less precipitation.” This weather pattern is expected to continue through tomorrow and the day after, although no heavy or prolonged rain is predicted.

However, due to the previous heavy rainfall, there is a risk of landslides and flooding even with minimal precipitation.

Currently, the monsoon winds are still affecting the entire country, influenced by a low-pressure system located in Madhya Pradesh, India, as explained by Manandhar.

Tonight, the mountainous areas of the country, including Koshi, are forecasted to experience partial to general cloud cover, along with light to moderate rain.

On Oct 2, further cloudiness is expected across Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati, and Gandaki States, accompanied by light to moderate rainfall.

The department has also indicated that similar weather conditions are anticipated on Oct 3, with some areas in Koshi Province possibly facing heavy rainfall, as stated in the official bulletin released by the department.
