KATHMANDU: As of Oct 7, the number of journalists martyred in Gaza since the beginning of Israeli attacks has risen to 170.

The Gaza government’s media office has reported that this tragic milestone follows the death of journalist Hamza Abdul Rahman Mortaja, who was killed in an attack targeting the Mustafa Hafiz school in Gaza City.

The statement issued by the media office calls for international action to halt Israeli occupation and to bring those responsible for these crimes against journalists to international courts.

There is also a plea for increased pressure to prevent further killings and crimes against journalists.

On Tuesday, an Israeli aircraft targeted a school housing hundreds of displaced individuals in Gaza, resulting in the deaths of 12 Palestinians, including many women and children, and dozens more injured.

This attack has exacerbated the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza, which has persisted for over ten months.

The prolonged conflict has led to thousands of casualties, including the dead, injured, and missing. The destruction of infrastructure and critical facilities has severely impacted daily life.

The continuous assault has obstructed the supply of essential resources such as food, water, medicine, and fuel, resulting in an unprecedented humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
