Landslide buries tractor, 25-year-old boy dies at the scene

KATHMANDU: A 25-year-old man died in Taplejung’s Sirijanga when a landslide buried the tractor he was driving.

Sabin Rai, a resident of Lungrupa, Phidim Municipality-14, Panchthar, was working on the under-construction Kabeli Third Hydropower Project when the incident occurred, according to police reports.

The landslide struck the tractor, bearing the registration number May 1 Ta 7969, as it was transporting goods towards Sirise in Sirijanga Rural Municipality-7, Khebang.

The debris from the landslide, which fell from the road above, caused Rai’s immediate death at the scene.

Inspector Kamal Kumar Lungeli of the District Police Office in Taplejung stated that the landslide swept the tractor approximately 60 meters down from the road.
