32-Year-old Sushan Rai dies in rock climbing accident
Sushan Rai, 32, a resident of Temma, Dipruwng Chuichumma Rural Municipality-7, who had recently resided in Hatdanda, Diktel, lost his life after falling from a cliff while attempting rock climbing.
KATHMANDU: A tragic incident occurred during a rock climbing expedition in Khotang, Diktel Rupakot Majhuwagadhi Rural Municipality-5, Laphyang, Buddheshwor, Majhuwa cliff on Thursday evening around 6:00 p.m.
Sushan Rai, 32, a resident of Temma, Dipruwng Chuichumma Rural Municipality-7, who had recently resided in Hatdanda, Diktel, lost his life after falling from a cliff while attempting rock climbing.
Rai fell from a cliff approximately 40 meters away. After suffering severe injuries, he was rushed to the district hospital where he was pronounced dead around 7:40 p.m., as confirmed by Purushottam Khadka, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) at the District Police Office, Khotang.
Accompanied by two friends, Rai had ventured to the cliff in Buddheswar for a rock climbing adventure.
The expedition was part of the tourism promotion efforts by the Rupakot Majhuwagadhi Rural Municipality-5, Laphyang. Previously, on April 5, a successful rock climbing trial had been conducted at the same cliff in Majhuwa.
A six-day training session for rock climbing, organized with the participation of the Mountain Climbing Instructors Association, had taken place at the same site.
The training involved seven locals and armed police personnel, including the deceased Rai.
The police have initiated an investigation into the incident.
