KATHMANDU: Kedar Karki, the Chief Minister of State 1, has filed a writ petition in the Supreme Court demanding continuity in his position.

The Governor had invited him for a meeting on Wednesday evening.

The Supreme Court has halted hearings on Thursday.

Meanwhile, Hikmat Karki of the CPN (Maoist Centre) has been appointed as the new Chief Minister in State 1.

A swearing-in ceremony has been scheduled for this evening.

Kedar Karki argues that being the Chief Minister under Article 168 (5) of the Constitution allows him to continue in office and prevent the formation of another government.

The ruling coalition claims that Kedar Karki has been in the minority for the past month and has been unable to secure a vote of confidence, resulting in his resignation.

They assert that a new government has been formed. Karki’s petition also demands the annulment of the Governor’s invitation to form a government.
