KATHMANDU: The Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has initiated legal proceedings against a dozen individuals, including the Mayor, Deputy Mayor, and Chief Administrative Officer of Jaleshwar Municipality in Mahottari District, on charges of corruption.

Narhari Ghimire, spokesperson for the commission, said that corruption had been uncovered in Jaleshwar Municipality, where inflated details were presented to cover up work that exceeded the actual implementation in the fiscal year 2079/80.

The case was lodged on Thursday and implicates Mayor Suresh Sah Senar, Deputy Mayor Raushan Khatun, and former Chief Administrative Officer Mitra Lal Dhakal, alongside others.

The allegations revolve around corruption in a construction project undertaken in Jaleshwar Municipality-1, with claims that the accused parties sanctioned payments that exceeded the actual project costs by Rs 584,637.

Further individuals implicated in the case include Ward Chair Anil Kumar Jha, Officer Direndra Jha, senior engineer Pawan Kumar Jha, engineer Rakesh Kumar Chaudhary, sub-engineer Dipesh Kumar Sah, member of the working committee Sogara Khatun, Chairman of the Consumer Group Rakesh Kumar Sah, secretary Sikendra Chaudhary, and treasurer Santoshi Devi.
