KATHMANDU: Daman Bahadur Bhandari, recently elected as a member from Bajhang-1 in the Sudurpaschim State, officially assumed his duties after taking the oath of office and secrecy on Thursday.

The oath was administered to Bhandari by Speaker Bhim Bhandari.

Bhandari emerged victorious in the Bajhang-1 by-election, which was held due to the unfortunate passing of Nepali Congress MP Prithvi Bahadur Singh on Ashar 5, 2080 BS.

Representing the CPN-UML, Bhandari secured the win with 11,612 votes, surpassing Abhishek Singh, the late politician Prithvi Bahadur Singh’s son.

Bhandari’s accession brings the CPN-UML’s representation in the Sudurpaschim State Assembly to 11 members.
