KATHMANDU: Suhang Nemwang, the newly elected Member of Parliament from Ilam Constituency No. 2, has taken the oath of office and secrecy.

Suhang Nembang, a newly elected member of the House of Representatives (HoR), officially took his oath of office and secrecy in a ceremony held at the hall of the Singha Durbar-based Agriculture Committee, with Speaker Devraj Ghimire presiding over the event today.

During the ceremony, Speaker Ghimire presented Nembang with the emblem of parliament, while members of the Secretariat provided him with copies of the Constitution of Nepal, as well as other relevant laws and documents.

In attendance were Deputy Speaker Indira Rana, Minister for Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs Padam Giri, Defence Minister Hari Prasad Uprety, as well as the Chief Whips of various political parties, and the Secretary-General of the Parliament Secretariat, Padam Prasad Pandeya.

Nembang, representing the CPN (UML), secured his seat in the HoR through a by-election held in Ilam Constituency-2 on April 27th.

Suhang Nembang is the son of former Vice-Chair of CPN-UML Subash Chandra Nembang. Following the demise of Subash Nembang, a by-election was held in Ilam-2, where Suhang Nembang was elected from the CPN’s side.

Suhang secured victory in Ilam Constituency No. 2 with 27,772 votes. His closest rival, Dambar Bahadur Khadka from the Nepali Congress, garnered 21,942 votes.

Suhang won with a margin of 5,780 votes over Khadka.
