KATHMANDU: A 25-year-old youth, Sunil Shahi, kept at the Kailali rehabilitation centre, has died under suspicious circumstances.

According to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Dipendra Kumar Pal, the Chief of the District Police Office in Sukhad, Shahi, who was residing at the rehabilitation centre, suffered severe injuries from jumping off the roof of a single-story building late Wednesday night.

Reportedly, Shahi succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at Ghodaghodi Hospital in Kailali.

His head, neck, waist, and both hands were found injured. DSP Pal stated that Shahi fell from the roof, which led to serious injuries and eventual death while receiving treatment at Ghodaghodi Hospital.

It is understood that Shahi jumped from the roof of the building with the intention of escaping from the rehabilitation centre, DSP Pal said.

However, Shahi’s family alleges murder upon examining the nature of the incident.

The deceased’s father, Dhanraj Joshi, demanded an impartial investigation into his son’s alleged murder.

He accused the rehabilitation center of not allowing him to meet his son for the past 25 days and claimed that they had assaulted his son, resulting in his death.

Shahi, who was a regular user of medication, had been placed in the rehabilitation center by his family last month.
