KATHMANDU: The period of silence for the by-elections in Ilam-2 and Bajhang-1 (A) has commenced today.

There are 19 candidates in Ilam and 11 candidates in Bajhang.

These by-elections are scheduled for April 27.

The Election Commission, through the Election Code of Conduct for 2079, has established a silence period starting 48 hours prior to the voting day until the closure of voting.

This measure aims to ensure the fairness, freedom, and integrity of the electoral process.

During this silence period, all election campaigning, discussions, interactions, gatherings, workshops, and assemblies are strictly prohibited.

The Election Commission has explicitly instructed against soliciting votes through any means, including online platforms, social media, print media, or any other medium, in support of or against any candidate or party.

Additionally, the Election Commission has called upon all concerned parties to refrain from publishing or broadcasting any press releases or content that speculate on the potential victory or defeat of any candidate through media channels, including social media platforms.
