KATHMANDU: Dirga Bahadur Sodari, the parliamentary party leader of the CPN (Unified Socialist) in Sudurpaschim State, has formally declared his candidacy for Chief Minister.

On Thursday afternoon, Rajendra Rawal, the leader of the UML parliamentary party, provided a letter of endorsement to Sodari for the position of Chief Minister.

Subsequently, he proceeded to the office of the provincial chief to formally submit his claim.

He then went to the state chief’s office to properly file his claim.

He has received support from the Maoist Centre, the CPN-UML, the CPN (Unified Socialist), the Nagarik Unmukti Party, and one independent MP.

Despite early reluctance, the CPN-UML has decided to support the Unified Socialist Party in order to keep its federal alliance together.

Sodari is set to be sworn in as chief minister later today.

The support of 27 members is required for the appointment of Chief Minister in the 53-member Sudurpaschim State Assembly.
