KATHMANDU: A bus accident occurred in South Africa, resulting in the loss of 45 lives.

The victims, who were en route from Gaborone, Botswana’s capital, to celebrate Easter in Moria city, met with the accident on Thursday.

Among the grim scene, rescuers discovered an eight-year-old girl miraculously alive amidst the wreckage.

The bus veered out of control, careening into a hillside before plummeting approximately 50 feet below a bridge and subsequently catching fire.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.

The crash site, situated roughly 300 kilometers north of Johannesburg in a mountainous region.

Authorities have initiated efforts to retrieve the bodies of the deceased passengers, as confirmed in an official statement.

“Several bodies suffered severe burns, making identification challenging,” stated the local department. Additionally, some victims remain trapped amidst the debris, while others are scattered across the accident site.

South African Transport Minister Sindisiwe Chikunga has pledged government assistance to repatriate the bodies to Botswana, according to reports from the broadcaster.
