China issues sandstorm warning

KATHMANDU: China’s National Meteorological Center has issued a sandstorm warning for several northern regions of the country, effective Thursday morning.

Sand and dust are anticipated to sweep through areas of Xinjiang, Inner Mongolia, Ningxia, Shaanxi, Shanxi, Hebei, Beijing, Tianjin, Shandong, Henan, Heilongjiang, Jilin, and Liaoning from 8:00 a.m. Thursday to 8:00 a.m. Friday.

Inner Mongolia is expected to bear the brunt of the sandstorms.

Residents are urged to take precautionary measures against the harsh weather conditions.

China employs a three-tiered, color-coded system for sandstorm alerts, with orange indicating the most severe warning, followed by yellow and blue.
