India election: Second phase of voting begins

KATHMANDU: The second phase of India’s 18th general elections, encompassing 13 states and 88 constituencies of centrally administered regions, commenced on Friday amidst heightened security measures.

Despite scorching temperatures, voters queued up early in the morning, armed with their electoral identity cards, signaling a keen interest in exercising their democratic rights.

This phase follows the first round of voting held last Friday, wherein approximately 65.5 percent of eligible voters cast their ballots.

As per the schedule announced by the Election Commission of India, voting will take place in seven phases.

The upcoming phases are slated as follows: the third phase on May 7th, fourth phase on May 13th, fifth phase on May 20th, sixth phase on May 25th, and the final phase concluding with vote counting on June 1st.
