KATHMANDU: Seventeen youths jump off the Karnali bridge at Chisapani in Kailali consecutively after celebrating Holi on Monday.

Among them, one individual remains missing, identified as Lokendra Bahadur Shahi, aged 30, from Kailali’s Lamkichuha Municipality.

Despite conducting search operations until Monday evening, the authorities failed to locate the missing person, prompting a halt in the search.

Today (Tuesday) morning, the search has resumed, informed Hari Ram Dangi, the Chief Police Inspector of the Chisapani Police Office.

According to Inspector Dangi, the group of youths went to the bridge intending to take group photos forcibly and jumped off the bridge.

“Although the police on duty attempted to stop them, the group proceeded towards the bridge after meeting friends who had been waiting for days, insisting on taking photos,” he stated. “There was no prior information about them jumping into the river. We only received the news after they went missing. An immediate rescue attempt was made but failed.’

Following the jump, 16 individuals were successfully rescued, while one remains missing.

The video of the incident and the subsequent search efforts have gone viral on social media platforms.
