SC seeks Home Ministry’s explanation on Prasai’s bodyguards’ arrest

KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court has mandated the government to provide a written explanation within three days regarding the arrest of the bodyguards of campaigner Durga Prasai.

Judge Saranga Subedi’s bench demanded clarification on the detention of two bodyguards apprehended within the Supreme Court premises.

In the case of Ramkumar Dhimal, Prasai’s bodyguard, Riya Rajbanshi filed a habeas corpus writ against seven government agencies, including the Home Ministry at Singha Durbar.

Similarly, for another bodyguard, Deepak Khadka, his wife Shanta Khadka lodged a writ.

Judge Mahesh Sharma Paudel has also instructed the government to furnish a written response to the writ within three days.

The Kathmandu District Court has granted permission to detain them for five days.

Prasai’s bodyguards were apprehended along with firearms from the Supreme Court premises on Monday.
