KATHMANDU: The ongoing ninth district convention of the CPN (UML) in Dhading has come to an abrupt halt due to escalating tensions and disturbances at the convention venue.

In response to the reported clashes among members and allegations of coercion and intimidation by the district committee, Kailash Dhungel, the Chair of Bagmati State, released an official statement on Sunday morning, announcing the suspension of the convention.

According to Chair Dhungel, the convention site witnessed confrontations and physical altercations among committee members and party leaders.

The situation escalated to the point where party activist Santosh Khanal was reported to have been assaulted.

In light of these developments, the district president, Bhumparsad Tripathi, allegedly proposed a resolution during the convention, creating an atmosphere of coercion and making decisions under duress. Chair Dhungel’s statement highlighted the increasingly tense and uneasy circumstances, stating, “From the very beginning of Magh 20 (Feb 3), the situation at the convention has been more challenging, aggressive, and threatening than the preceding days.

Despite continuous efforts to address the issues through discussions and negotiations, creating a peaceful and conducive environment for the convention has proven unattainable.”

The party expressed its commitment to resolving internal disputes and reinstating a conducive atmosphere before reconvening the district convention in the future.
