Voting for the National Assembly elections continues, results today

KATHMANDU: Voting for the National Assembly elections has begun. Voting began after 9 a.m. in voting booths throughout all seven states.

The Election Commission has announced that an election will be place today for 19 positions.

Voting will continue until 3 p.m. As soon as the voting is done, the commission will begin tallying ballots and reveal the results today.

Dinesh Thapaliya, Chief Commissioner of the Election Commission, stated that the results will be released three to four hours after voting ended.

The Commission has designated polling stations for the state election office for Koshi, Mahendra Narayan Nidhi Mithila Sanskriti Kendra for Madhesh, Bhutandevi Secondary School and Technical School for Bagmati, the state election office for Gandaki, staff meeting center for Lumbini, election office for Karnali and state assembly building for Sudurpaschim.

Although 12 political parties have registered their parties with the commission to participate in the election, there are 51 candidates from 8 parties in the election field. From the power alliance, Congress, Maoist, CPN (S) and JSP have formed an alliance by putting forward a common candidate. In which there are 10 candidates of Congress, 6 of Maoist, 2 of S and 1 of JSP.

In Koshi, where there is a close competition with the ruling coalition, the main opposition UML has formed an alliance with RPP. In the Koshi government, the RPP, which took the position of speaker with the power alliance, has reached an alliance with the UML in the National Assembly member elections.

According to the Election Commission, there are 10,135 votes in Koshi, 10,744 in Madhesh, 10,333 in Bagmati, 6,410 in Gandaki, 8 thousand 753 in Lumbini, 5,084 in Karnali and 6,100 in Sudurpaschim, a total of 57,559 votes.

Among the 20 positions that were set to become vacant from Falgun 20 (March 3), elections have been held for 19 positions today.

Among the MPs whose terms will expire include Ganesh Timilsina, Bimala Rai Poudyal (Women’s quota), Deepa Gurung (Women), Indu Kadariya (Women), Dil Kumari Raval Thapa (Women), Kumar Dasaudi (Others), Narpati Luhar (Dalit), Bhairav Kumar Shrestha (Others), and Ram Chandra Rai, among others.

From the Congress party, Anita Devkota (Women), Jitendra Narayan Dev, Ramesh Jung Rayamajhi, and Prakash Panth (Disabled).

From the Maoist party, Bina Pokharel (Women), Hariram Chaudhary (Others), and Mahesh Kumar Mahrakar (3 seats).

From the Unified Socialist party, Nanda Chapagain and Singha Bahadur Bishwakarma (Dalit), and from the Janasakti party, Pramila Kumari (Women) and Swatantra Khimlal are among the MPs whose terms will expire on Falgun 20 (March 3).
