KATHMANDU: Rabi Lamichhane, President of Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), has dismissed allegations against him, claiming that the media has sensationalized the issue with “headline terror.”

In a press conference addressing the accusations, Lamichhane asserted his innocence, stating, “Headline terror has been made against me, nothing is going to happen.”

Responding to specific claims about 18 million being deposited into his account, Lamichhane refuted the allegations, saying, “18 million has not been received in my account, I got news that it is not happening, what should I do now.”

Just today, Kantipur Dainik published news that Rabi had taken unauthorized money including a ‘slip’ from Global IME Bank.

This statement came on the heels of a Kantipur Daily report, which detailed accusations against Lamichhane, accusing him of receiving shares with cooperative funds and allegedly transferring 18 million to his account when he left his position as the managing director of Gorkha Media Network, which operates Galaxy Television.

The cooperative’s current chair, GB Rai, is reportedly absconding amid the controversy.

During a press conference attended by journalist Anil Keshary Sah, Rabi Lamichhane, the RSP’s president, made public a letter he received from Global IME Bank. The letter, dated June 17, 2022, mentioned a cheque deposited into his account, but Lamichhane clarified that the mentioned amount of NPR 18 million was not credited due to insufficient balance during the cheque clearing process.

Kesahary Sah, a former banker and current Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) leader, highlighted the banking process, emphasizing that individuals receiving checks typically provide a receipt upon depositing the chequw.

However, if the funds are not credited to the account, there is no notification, and phone calls to the concerned person may go unanswered.

Lamichhane further added, “If I issue a cheque of NPR 100 million and deposit it into Kailash Sirohiya’s account, and if there is no money in my account, will it go to Sirohiya’s account? Is this how the news is written?’
