KATHMANDU: Seventy-three individuals who were detained during a demonstration at the Bal Kumari exhibition grounds in Lalitpur have been released.

The decision to release those detained was announced by the Metropolitan Police Range based on the Employment Permit System (EPS) on Poush 13 (Dec 29).

These individuals were seeking employment opportunities in Korea when they were taken into custody.

The release decision was communicated by AIG Deepak Thapa of the Metropolitan Police Office. They had been detained on charges related to the burning of a vehicle with registration number Ba 2 Jha 5861 and causing damage to physical property during the protest.

Two individuals had tragically lost their lives due to police intervention during the demonstration.

In response to the loss of lives during the protest, the government has pledged financial assistance of 1 million to the families of each deceased youth.

The Cabinet meeting held on Saturday at Baluwatar decided to provide financial relief at the rate of NPR 1 million per family to the families of Sujan Raut from Dailkeh and Birrendra Shah from Achham, both of whom lost their lives during the demonstration.

The government has also assured that the medical expenses for those injured during the incident will be borne by the state.

The Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, Rekha Sharma, stated that the government is committed to providing prompt medical treatment to the injured and expressed condolences to the affected families.

The Cabinet meeting, while discussing the incident, emphasized conducting an impartial investigation into the matter and taking swift action against those found responsible.
