KATHMANDU: Since Wednesday, videos of some people abusing the police are being shared on social media such as Facebook and X. In the video, four people can be seen holding a policeman.

Many concerns have been raised since the video went public, like who the policemen is, why he was assaulted, who the abusers are, and whether or not action has been done against them.

The Kanchanpur District Police Office has provided some information about this. Bishnu Bhul is the police policeman shown in the video, according to Information Officer and Deputy Inspector of Police Prakash Dangi. He works at the Dokebazar police station.

On Tuesday, police constable Bhul went on personal business to Gouriphanta, a market on the Nepal-India border across Kanchanpur. Simultaneously, he was assaulted when he disagreed with locals over personal things.

“Since it is Indian land, we have contacted the Indian police,” said Dangi, “one person has been detained.” As there is an incident of misbehavior on Indian soil, they will be punished according to the laws of India.

Dangi said that as much abuse was seen in the video, the same happened in reality and police constable Bhul was not injured. “It was just a normal fight. So he didn’t say anything. The information came to us after the video went viral. We have taken the legal process forward by calling the Indian police,” said Dangi.
