KATHMANDU: As part of the week-long Vivaha Panchami festival, the much-anticipated marriage ceremony of Lord Ram and Mata Sita is set to unfold today in Janakpurdham.

The sacred precincts of the Janaki Temple have been adorned in preparation for this auspicious occasion.

Ahead of the matrimonial rites, the procession of Mata Sita’s bridal entourage, known as “dola,” departs from the Janaki Temple, while Lord Rama’s groom’s party similarly sets forth from the Ram Temple. The two processions converge at Janakpurdham’s historic 12-bigha arena ground.

Upon reaching the Rang Bhoomi Maidan, a cultural program ensues, rooted in the rich traditions of Mithila, captivating the myriad attendees, including countless Tritalus from both Nepal and India who have gathered to witness the Swayamvar ceremony.

Following the Swayamvar program, a vibrant Shobha Yatra commences, where the processions from both temples traverse various parts of the city before culminating at the Janaki Temple premises.

Within the hallowed grounds of the Janaki Temple courtyard, the celestial union of Lord Ram and  Mata Sita transpires in the divine presence of a revered saint journeying from Ayodhya, India.

In adherence to Mithila’s sacred customs, thousands of devout pilgrims assemble within the temple precincts, eagerly participating in the marriage ceremony that extends into the late hours.

Anticipating a significant surge in visitors this year, Janakpurdham welcomes a multitude of pilgrims who converge to partake in the grandeur of the Ram Janaki wedding, making it a truly extraordinary and spiritually enriching experience.
