KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court (SC) has scheduled the hearing for the petition challenging the government’s decision to ban the popular social media platform TikTok.

Earlier, the case scheduled for Monday was been put on the ‘no time to see’ list, all 10 writs in this matter will be heard today in the single bench of Judge Vinod Sharma.

On Friday, ten writ petitions were filed alleging that the Nepal government’s decision to close TikTok on Kartik 27 (Nov 13) violated the freedom of thought and expression guaranteed by Article 17(2) of the Constitution.

The writ petitioners claim that the government’s recent efforts to control social media have gradually eroded freedom of expression, and that the government has chosen TikTok as a means of controlling the network.
