KATHMANDU: Fast-observers celebrated the Chhath festival at Gaurighat’s Chhath Ghat in Kathmandu by offering prayers to the setting sun.

On Chhath, the materials for offering to the sun are taken to the ghat and dipped in water before being offered to the sun god.

According to fast observers, when Chhath is worshiped, one’s wishes will be granted.

They said that the sun will be worshiped with coconut, banana, thekuwa (sweet dish made from wheat and rice flour) and other fruits and sweets.

They claim to worship the sun in order to keep their resolutions, as well as for the well-being of their families and the prevention of diseases.

It is believed that properly observing the Chhath fast will yield the desired results. It is expected that the family will be happy and that all of their sorrows and troubles will vanish.

The festival will conclude the next day with the worship of the rising sun.
