KATHMANDU: CPN-UML MP Raghuji Pant has stated that allowing the authorities to investigate all policy decisions will diminish the prime minister’s executive authority.

He said this during a meeting of the State Order and Good Governance Committee on Wednesday.

He stated that the prime minister cannot be strong if the authorities is allowed to probe all decisions.

He stated that it is necessary to review the decisions of the Council of Ministers and make mediation mechanisms to ensure that the Prime Minister’s rights are not abridged. He stated that reaching a middle ground within the constitutional framework would benefit both sides.

He said, “The level of corruption has started reaching beyond the borders of the country. We cannot stop it with the existing law. Can’t cover it. If so, how many times have they told the government, how to solve it? How strong will the Prime Minister be if he says that all policy decisions will be investigated by the Authority. Will there be another government tomorrow with authority over the Prime Minister? Because we have to find a balance within the overall constitutional framework. If the authority can see every decision, it will be an insult to the Prime Minister. If you are not allowed to see it together, any decision will be sent to the cabinet. What can be the balancing policy and provisions? You have to think about it. Giving all powers weakens the executive power of the Prime Minister. There should be an intermediary provision in it.

MP Pant said that all policy decisions should not be given to the authority.
