KATHMANDU: Today, numerous programs are being held around the country to commemorate Constitution Day- Ashoj 3.

The Day marks the promulgation of the constitution written by the people’s representatives via the constituent assembly on Ashoj 3, 2072BS (20 Sept, 2015).

The first President of the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal, Dr. Ram Baran Yadav, announced the promulgation of the ‘Constitution of Nepal 2072′ on Ashoj 3, 2072BS (20 Sept, 2015). It has been eight years since the creation of the constitution and its implementation.

The current constitution is Nepal’s eighth written constitution, and it aims to achieve socialism through citizens’ socioeconomic and cultural rights.

It has special significance as it was enacted by the constituent assembly on the basis of the second people’s movement, peace pact, and peace process.

Earlier, the peace deal was signed by the then-seven political groups and the CPN (Maoist) party.

With the removal of the unitary system and monarchy, it has formally established the new structure of a federal democratic republic.

With the announcement of the new constitution, the interim constitution of Nepal 2063 was abolished.

Late Subas Chandra Nembang was the chairman of the Constituent Assembly when the constitution was promulgated.

There are currently seven states, 753 local levels and a federal government as per the new form of governance adopted by the new constitution.

Five hundred and thirty-seven members of the parties participating in the process of the Constituent Assembly signed this constitution, which included new systems such as federalism, secularism, and a socialist-oriented federal democratic republican governance system.

“Constitution of Nepal, 2072” has 35 parts, 308 articles and 9 schedules.

Meanwhile, a special function is being organized at Army Pavilion at Tundikhel this morning. President Ram Chandra Poudel will participate in the Constitution Day program to be held in Tundikhel this morning.

On this occasion, an awareness drive, talks, and discussions are planned. Special features on the occasion of Constitution Day have been published in print and electronic media, and special programs have been broadcast and webcast.

The constitution promulgated by Nepalese citizens for themselves is progressively being accepted by all.

While efforts were underway to successfully implement federalism in the country, the current administration put in place the essential policies and legislation to enforce the constitution.
