Manang Air helicopter crash: 5 dead, 1 missing

KATHMANDU: The 9NA-MV helicopter of Manang Air, which flew from Solukhumbu’s Surke helipad to Kathmandu, was found in a crashed condition resulting in the loss of 5 lives, while one individual remains unaccounted for.

It is assumed that the helicopter crashed after hitting a tree.

According to Assistant Police Inspector Nirajan Basnet, who was present at the scene, the rescue work of the police is continuing. He informed that 5 dead bodies have been found so far and their identification is yet to be done.

A helicopter crashed at the border of Likhu Pike Rural Municipality 5 and Dudhkund Municipality 2 in Solukhumbu at Lamajura Pass.

The helicopter took off at 10:10 in the morning. After 12 minutes of take-off, contact was lost.

The helicopter was carrying 6 people including the pilot.

The cause of the accident is yet to be known.

Another Altitude Air helicopter has just reached at the crash location. Police and rescue workers are still on the scene.
