KATHMANDU: Mulpani Cricket Ground has been renamed.

The Upper Mulpani Cricket Ground has been renamed following a meeting of the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN).

The cricket ground’s new name will be Jayakumar Shah International Cricket Ground.

Mulpani Cricket Ground has been renamed after Jayakumar Nath Shah, the founder and former chairman of CAN.

The ACC Premier Cup match versus Hong Kong and Singapore was played at the Upper Mulpany Cricket venue for the first time last Baisakh, following which the venue was given the opportunity to be internationalized. The government has also contributed money this fiscal year to finish the playground, which has been in the works for a long time but is still unfinished.

The only completely internationally recognized cricket ground in Nepal is TU. Mulpani is Nepal’s second ODI venue to be recognized. The TU ground in Nepal will host an ODI for the first time in 2020.

Upper Mulpani can begin work on the academy in 2008. However, due to a shortage of fields, Nepal later organized a national competition. Mulpani is also the 216th venue in the world to attain ODI status.
