KATHMANDU: The 8th Energy Summit (Power Summit) has begun in Kathmandu under the slogan of “Green Energy Market Expansion.”

The energy conference, organized by the Independent Energy Producers Association of Nepal (IPAN) and hosted by Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, will span two days today and tomorrow.

The conference is being attended by 300 foreign representatives from over 30 nations, including India, Bangladesh, Bhutan, and Sri Lanka.

The conference will also include high-level officials from the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources, and Irrigation, as well as representatives from power trading businesses, power producers, financial institutions, transmission and distribution companies, consultancy firms, and other energy sector stakeholders.

Direct Power Purchase Agreement (PPA), renewable energy development and market expansion MoU will be signed between Nepali hydropower project and Indian buyer.

According to Ashish Garga, president of IPAN and conference coordinator, the conference will include 15 sessions on topics such as Nepal’s electricity market, transmission infrastructure, Nepal’s hydropower demand, technology, innovation, solar, hydrogen, international electricity trade, and sustainable and climate-adaptive development.
