Pokhara plane crash: Experts begins autopsy work

According to Thakur, a three-member expert team from the teaching hospital Maharajgunj is traveling to Pokhara for the autopsy of the body.

KATHMANDU: Forensic experts have started the post-mortem work. Dr. Gopal Chaudhary and Dr. Samarika Dahal, forensic experts of the University Teaching Hospital, came to Pokhara and started the examination of the body.

In the case of Pokhara residents who died in the crash, an autopsy will be performed in Pokhara and the bodies will be returned to their families, whereas in the case of bodies brought to Kathmandu, an autopsy will be performed in Kathmandu.

According to Premnath Thakur, the General Manager of Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA), the bodies of flight crew members, foreign nationals, and Kathmandu residents will be brought to Kathmandu.

Yeti Airlines’ ATR 72 flight 691, ‘9 N NAC,’ which flew from Kathmandu to Pokhara on Sunday morning, Magh 1 (Jan 15), crashed before landing at Seti gorge in Pokhara.

There were 72 people on the plane, including four crew members and 68 passengers.

Following the crash, the airport’s ‘Rescue and Fire Fighting’ team, along with the Nepal Army, Nepal Police, Armed Police Force, and a diving team, is continuing the rescue.
