KATHMANDU: Darsha and Tirtha or Gaya Shraddha, which is traditionally performed on the day of Paush Krishna Aunsi, is being carried out properly today.

Shraddha is performed to forefathers on the last day of the Dakshinayan by offering Tarpan, Sidadan, and Pindadan.

Because the father values Krishna Paksha, it is a Hindu religious tradition to perform Shraddha on the last day of Paksha, i.e. Aunsi. Vedic Sanatan religion devotees visit the shrine and perform Shraddha at least once in their lifetime, if not every year.

Uttarayana begins with Maghe Sankranti in the solar month and Magha Krishna Pratipada in the lunar month.

It is customary to perform Shraddha on the first day of Uttarayana, known as Paush Krishna day.

Today, devotees flock to shrines such as Gokarna Uttar Gaya in Kathmandu, Devghat in Tanahun, Riddy in Gulmi, Betravati in Sangam in Nuwakot, and Rasuwa to perform Shraddha rituals.

The Shraddha performed today is also known as Gaya Shraddha as it is performed in Gaya and other Indian shrines.
