KATHMANDU: The direct results of the House of Representatives election last Sunday are still being tallied. According to the public results as of 8:30 a.m. this morning, the Nepali Congress is in the lead.
The Congress, which formed an electoral coalition with the ruling coalition parties, had nominated candidates in 91 constituencies. So far, 26 candidates for the Congress have been elected. The CPN-UML is trailing the Congress in the House of Representatives, having won 15 seats.
The UML, which has an electoral alliance with several out-of-power parties, has nominated candidates for 141 seats. The ruling coalition’s CPN-Maoist Center fielded candidates in 46 House of Representatives constituencies. According to the latest vote results, Maoists have won 7 seats.
The other party of the ruling coalition, which has nominated 21 seats, has won 6 seats for the CPN United Socialist Party and 4 seats for the new party, the National Independent Party. The parties in the ruling coalition, Rastriya Janamorcha and Loktantrik Samajbadi Party (LSP) won 1 seat each, while the Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) in alliance with UML also won 1 seat.
Rashtriya Prajatantra Party (RPP), which is in electoral coordination with UML, has secured victory in two seats. In Bardiya, 1 independent candidate also won when the Nagarik Unmukti Party, which was registered, won 1 seat.
