KATHMANDU: Sandeep Lamichhane, the suspended captain of Nepal’s cricket team, will face a detention hearing behind closed doors today.

Following a detention hearing on Wednesday in the courtroom of District Court Kathmandu Judge Madhav Ghimire, the hearing is set to resume today. Four people testified on behalf of the public prosecutor on Wednesday. Two lawyers also argued on behalf of Sandeep.

On Monday, the police filed a case in Kathmandu District Court. Sandeep made his statement on Tuesday. The detention order will be issued following the debate. The court will issue an order either to imprison Sandeep or to keep him on bail or ordinary bail pending the outcome of the case.

Victims’ attorneys have claimed that it was rape. According to Sandeep’s lawyer, there was no rape and the girl is 19 years old. Previously, it was claimed that the girl was only 18 years old based on her citizenship.

Sandeep’s side has provided evidence that the girl is 19 years old. Sandeep’s side has submitted the girl’s birth certificate, migration certificate, and proof of when she was first enrolled in the school. According to this, the girl has turned 19 years old.
