Candidates can withdraw their names today

KATHMANDU: Candidates who have filed nomination papers for the upcoming elections to the House of Representatives (HoR) and State Assembly can withdraw their candidacy today.

Candidates running in the First-Past-The-Post system for HoR and State Assembly constituencies could withdraw their candidacy from 10:00 to 13:00 by visiting the Offices of the Chief Returning Officers and Offices of the Returning Officers, either by themselves or through their representatives, according to the Election Commission’s election schedule.

The final list of candidates will then be published from 13:00 to 15:00 on Oct 12, and the candidates will be given their election symbols at 16:00 on Wednesday.

The EC has already appointed 165 election officers, including 77 chief returning officers and 88 returning officers, for the Nov 20 election.

There are 2,291 men and 235 women running for the 165 House of Representatives seats.

Similarly, 3,476 candidates, including 297 men and one other, are running for 330 seats in the state assembly using the first-past-the-post electoral system.

It should be noted that the ruling coalition instructed rebel candidates on Tuesday to withdraw their candidacies by 1 p.m. today.

The Nepali Congress (NC) has threatened to take action against rebel candidates who do not withdraw their candidacies by 1 p.m. today.
