Shawl of deceased folk singer Dilmaya recovered

KATHMANDU: The shawl used by folk singer Dilmaya Sunar on the night she died has been found. Surya Shrestha, who is in a relationship with Dilmaya, said that he knew where the shawl was used to make the trap. Police found the shawl at the place mentioned by Surya Shrestha.
A team from the Valley Crime Investigation Branch along with Surya found the shawl while searching the place.
According to a branch official, the Dilmaya shawl was found in a drain near the Nepal Investment Bank branch office in Maharajgunj.
Police arrested Khil Bahadur Shrestha alias Surya Shrestha of Sangachokgadhi in Sindhupalchowk on suspicion of murder after the body of Dilmaya of Surkhet was found in a room at Nepaltar at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
He claimed that Dilmaya had used the shawl as a trap (to be hung) and that the police had found it where he had thrown it. Surya has not confessed to Dilmaya’s murder, according to a branch official, despite the fact that her shawl was found at the scene.
Her body is currently being held at the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital in Maharajgunj. The autopsy has not been done as the relatives are coming from Surkhet.
Dilmaya, who rose to prominence as a result of Live Dohori, the police arrived on the scene and began an investigation after Dilmaya’s body was found in suspicious condition.
Initially investigating the suicide suspicion, police could not find the cell phone nad shawl that was said to have been used for hanging could not be found.
Police had started an investigation into Sunar’s death and arrested Surya Shrestha. He did not mention the phone, but he did say that Dilmaya’s shawl was thrown in the Chakrapath.
According to the crime branch, after not finding Dilmaya’s cell phone or shawl, police have begun an investigation focusing on suicide and murder.
Dilmaya, a mother of one son, was divorced and living alone. Surya, a father of four, used to visit her room regularly.
It has been revealed that he reached Dilmaya’s room on Friday night. Around 11 p.m. on Friday, neighbors reported hearing loud noises.
