Over 1,000 fowls culled after bird flu
A veterinary team arrived and slaughtered the fowls, which included 1,200 broiler chickens, 80 turkeys, and other local chickens.
KATHMANDU: After detecting bird flu at a turkey farm in Tatopani, Birendranagar Municipality-3, Surkhet, 1,300 turkeys were destroyed.
A test at the Central Livestock Investigation Laboratory confirmed the presence of bird flu in turkey. According to Prachanda Khadka, Chief of the Livestock Development Directorate, a sample was sent to the laboratory after 100 turkeys died on the farm.
As a result, an emergency meeting of the Surkhet district administration office decided to cull the fowls—turkey, broiler, and local chicken—in areas within 500 meters of the farm.

According to Chief District Officer Khagendra Prasad Rijal, farmers in the Surkhet Valley have been informed about the potential spread of bird flu.
