KATHMANDU: Pfizer vaccine against COVID-19 has been started in children under the age of 12 in Kathmandu from Thursday.

The first dose will be administered to children in 27 districts today through July 29, followed by the second dose from July 18 to 24. The first dose will be administered in the remaining 50 districts from August 21 to 27, and the second dose will be administered from September 12 to 17. According to the Family Welfare Division, the Pfizer Bioentech vaccine given to children in this age group is 99 percent effective and safe.

According to the Kathmandu District Public Health Branch, 190,000 children of that age group will be vaccinated at school in the Kathmandu district. 3.9 million children will be vaccinated against COVID-19 as part of this campaign, which will take place in all 753 municipalities across the country. According to the Public Health Division, in addition to Kathmandu schools, children in kindergartens and prisons will be vaccinated.

On June 19, approximately 2.2 million Dodge Pfizer Bioentech vaccines were introduced in Nepal through the COVAX program, with US assistance.
