KATHMANDU: The Department of Health Services has initiated the National Vitamin ‘A’ program today, targeting children under five years old.

During this two-day program, Vitamin ‘A’ capsules will be provided to children aged six months to 59 months, and de-worming tablets will be administered to children aged one year to five years.

Lila Bikram Thapa, Head of the Nutrition Section at the Department, stated that the goal is to distribute Vitamin ‘A’ capsules to approximately 3.2 million children and de-worming tablets to around 2.9 million children.

Health volunteers will be responsible for administering both Vitamin ‘A’ and de-worming tablets to children in every ward.

A total of 52,000 women health volunteers and 10,000 health workers have been deployed for this program.

This initiative provides Vitamin ‘A’ capsules and de-worming tablets free of charge to children every year in the months of Baishakh and Kartik.
