Five arrested for selling land worth Rs 7 crore using a forged death certificate
According to the police, the accused had sold the land by making a fake death certificate of Shanti Devi and setting up a fake husband.
KATHMANDU: Five people were arrested by police in Kirtipur, Kathmandu, for selling land and fabricating fake death certificates for landowners.
The Nepal Police Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) has arrested five people on charge of selling land by fabricating fake death registration certificates for landowners who are currently residing in Japan.
According to police, those arrested include Mahabir Chand, Ganesh Bahadur Khanal, Baburam Karki, Prem Prasad Khanal, and Dasi Maya Shrestha.
According to CIB spokesperson SP Shyam Kumar Mahato, a gang sold 11 acres and 2 paisa land of Shanti Devi Lohani, who has been living in Japan since 2055 BS, in Kirtipur Municipality-2, Maitrinagar by forging documents.
According to the police, the accused had sold the land by making a fake death certificate of Shanti Devi and setting up a fake husband.
According to the CIB, when landowner Shanti Devi Lohani arrived in Nepal on May 19 to do biometrics at the Land Revenue Office, she reached the police after it was revealed that the land had been sold.
