In Pics: TIA closed for half an hour for ‘rescue exercise’
Some people were killed, while others were seriously injured.
KATHMANDU: After 3 p.m., the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) was closed. Flights and landings were halted on a regular basis. The planes in the sky were either grounded or diverted to a nearby airport.
The plane went down in the area behind the radar. Alerts were issued at the airport, and rescue teams and ambulances rushed to the scene, including the Aviation Authority, army, and police firefighters. The airport was deafeningly quiet.
Some people were killed, while others were seriously injured. Firefighters and ambulances were dispatched to the scene.
A military helicopter arrived and rescued the injured. Immediately, the same city’s fire department arrived at the airport to provide ‘backup force.’
Ambulances from almost all the hospitals in the valley also entered the airport. The injured were rescued, and the fire was put out.
However, not all of these scenes were made up, but rather were part of a regular demonstration of the Civil Aviation Authority’s “air crash rescue” at the airport.
