DHANGADHI: MAY. 25 – The protest began after the Geta Medical College, which is currently under construction in Geta, Kailali, was excluded from the government’s policy and program.

Westerners are upset because they believe the government has neglected the medical college, which has 90 percent physical infrastructure. A struggle committee has been formed in order to demand the establishment of a medical college.

However, plans to establish a medical college in Dadeldhura, Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba’s home district, have been included in the policy and program.

The construction of Geta Medical College began in 2073 BS and 2074 BS, but it has not been able to come into operation even though 90 percent of the infrastructure construction work has been completed.

After the medical college was not included in the policy and program, Nepali Congress Secretary Kailali Nirpa Bahadur Sunar stated that struggle programs would be organized for the movement.

Roadblock in Attariya

A sit-in has been organized in Attariya, Kailali, demanding that Geta Medical College remain open.

A spontaneous group of youths has staged a sit-in in Attariya. They were stuck for about an hour. They claim that the government has ignored Geta Medical College, which is undergoing renovations.
