Consumers held empty cylinders in front of the Chief Minister’s Office, holding placards with slogans like “control over prices and corruption, withdraw of petroleum price hike” and “state government slept rather than speaking in favor of citizens.”

Customers have begun a protest, alleging that the Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) has raised the prices of petroleum products and cooking gas.

According to Uttam Dhungel, chairperson of the consumerist organization Public Forum, they had to protest by placing an empty cylinder in front of the Chief Minister’s Office because the state government was waiting for the federal government’s decision. “The government should immediately withdraw the increase in petroleum and cooking gas prices,” he said.

Consumerist organizations have stated that the protest against the price hike, which began today, will run continuously. Civil Society, the Bibeksheel Sajha Party, and others have joined the demonstration

Consumers have expressed dissatisfaction with the leaders of the so-called major parties and some organizations for failing to speak out in the face of the unaffordable price increase.
