KATHMANDU: MAY. 23 – The newly elected officials of Kathmandu’s Gokarneshwor Municipality have taken their oaths. The District Judge swore in Mayor Deepak Kumar Risal, Deputy Mayor Sannani Lama, and other officials on Monday.

Today, 9 ward chairpersons were also sworn in. Today, 47 people, including ward members, took the oath of office here.

Risal was elected as a member of the Nepali Congress. He secured 9,692 votes, while UML’s Uddhav Bista received only 8,504 votes. Risal was elected with 1,188 votes.

Similarly, Lama of UML backed the deputy mayor. She polled 8,804 votes. She was elected after defeating Shanti Nepal of the Congress by 133 votes. Nepal garnered 8,671 votes.
