JHAPA: MAY. 22 – Ram Kumar Thapa, the elected mayor of Jhapa’s Damak Municipality, has stated that he will not accept any service or benefit from the municipality, including his salary.

Speaking to the media after the Election Commission handed over certificates to those elected, he stated that he would not take unnecessary services or facilities to demonstrate that the people’s representative is a servant of the people.

Thapa stated that he would not accept any benefit for selfless work on behalf of the people and that he would not even eat tea paid for by the people or feed anyone.

Declaring that his sole goal is to bring prosperity and development to Damak, he expressed the local government’s commitment to always working on behalf of the people.

He was elected the mayor of the ruling coalition, which includes the RPP while Regina Bhattarai Prasain of the Congress was elected as deputy mayor.

The coaliton won one, four, and ten of Damak’s ten wards, while the UML won the remaining seven.
