NCs wins Itahari mayor & UML wins deputy mayor

KATHMANDU: MAY. 22 – Nepali Congress has won the post of mayor of Itahari Sub-Metropolitian of Sunsari and CPN-UML has won the post of deputy mayor.

Hemkarna Poudel of the Congress and Sangita Kumari Chaudhary of the UML were elected as mayor and deputy mayor, respectively.

Poudel, who was running for the alliance, defeated CPN-UML candidate Yam Kumar Subba by 5,018 votes. He obtained 33,049 votes, while Subba polled only 28,031 votes.

For the post of deputy mayor, UML candidate Chaudhary secured 32,436 votes. Keshav Kumar Bista of the CPN-U was defeated by 18,331 votes.
