Deputy mayoral candidate Kurmi dies

KATHMANDU: MAY. 10 – A deputy mayoral candidate has died in Kapilvastu. Shubhawati Kurmi, a Nepali Congress candidate for the position of deputy mayor in the district’s Maharajgunj Municipality, died last night.

According to family members, the deceased, who was also the outgoing deputy mayor, died while receiving treatment at the Toulihawa district hospital. It is believed she died of a heart attack.

All programs for today’s Maharajgunj Municipality election have been postponed due to the death of the candidate. District Election Officer Gyanuram Panthi informed that the election process will resume once the Election Commission publishes the next election program. Kurmi lives in Maharajgunj Municipality-2, Gaidahawa.
