Youth attacked with khukuri in Dharan; 5 arrested

KATHMANDU: A 21-year-old youth, Rijan Rai, of Dharan Sub-Metropolitan City-15, Sadan Road, was critically injured in a khukuri attack.
Police have arrested five individuals, including a young woman, in connection with the incident.
The arrested individuals include 18-year-old Utsav Magar and 21-year-old Bishranti Magar of Dharan-13, 22-year-old Roman Gurung and 17-year-old Prasthan Rai of Dharan-8, and 21-year-old Sudip Tamang of Dharan-5.
The attack occurred last Saturday morning, leaving Rai injured and lying on the roadside.
Locals immediately informed the police upon discovering him.
Responding swiftly, a team from the New Bus Park Police Post sent Rai to the BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences for treatment.
The suspects were apprehended from different locations in Dharan during a police search operation, which also led to the seizure of a scooter (registration no. Province 1-02-052 P 8985) used in the incident.
The District Court Sunsari has extended the custody of the five suspects by five days for further investigation, according to police reports.
