Truck used in smuggling: Police say ‘we are investigating’
Police have also recovered illegal clothes from another vehicle.
BIRATNAGAR: MAY. 3 – The truck, as well as the stolen goods, was seized by police. The goods loaded in a truck (Na 3 Kha 7812) from Biratnagar Metropolitan City-10 have been taken into custody by police.
Police have seized 4,200 kg of peas smuggled into Nepal by evading customs. According to Deepak Shrestha, spokesperson for the Morang District Police Office, truck driver Gopal Nath Rai, 52, of Panchkhal-6 in the Kavre district, smuggled the pea from India to Nepal. The police, he claims, have kept the truck and its driver under control.
Police have also recovered illegal clothes from another vehicle. Biratnagar Metropolitan City Ward No. 11 police have seized illegal clothing as well as an Indian motorcycle. Anoj Singh, 29, of Jogbani in India’s Araria Nagar Panchayat-9, was nabbed by police.
According to DSP Shrestha, the police seized Rs 2.5 million in goods, including handkerchiefs and clothing, and handed them over to the customs office.
An investigation is underway into the manner in which the goods came to Nepal from India without paying customs duty.
